The Littlest Turtle

This is to show the scale of a baby eastern box turtle I found crossing a highway on June 29, 2012, in Makanda, Ill. Here's the story:
This turtle (Terrapene carolina) tried to cross a busy rural highway. It was lucky (and fast) enough to make it to the middle of the highway when a car drove too close to it and it hid inside its shell. I pulled over, gently picked it up and relocated it to the other side of the highway away from cars. What a cute little thing! It wasn't scared of me, and it was very determined to be on its way as quickly as it could be. <3
